Techn. Angaben Mappe mit einem Heft (Drahtheftung, signiert)
ZusatzInformation This artist’s book is the result of Herbarium Cataplasma, a twofold community art project that Laurence Aëgerter developed at the invitation of the city of Leeuwarden in Friesland, the Netherlands. Aëgerter led a careful reconstruction of the plan of the medicinal garden of the medieval Abbey of Saint Gall on an unused plot of land in Leeuwarden, which was once part of a convent. This project was realized in collaboration with the local residents. Aëgerter also invited the residents for a symbolical healing ritual of destroyed landscapes. She selected 100 images by searching the web for photographs of disasters created by nature and man throughout the world.
Participants were invited to treat the photographs of destroyed landscapes with the medicinal plants from their newly built garden, with appropriate herbal therapies (e.g. cannabis for anxiety relief or ginger against pain from burns). As the source images were mainly used as news photographs, Aëgerter’s book relates to a newspaper design.
The research, proces and results of Herbarium Cataplasma are gathered on the blog Herbarium Cataplasma

ZusatzInformation Karaoke – spoken not sung!
Speech Karaoke – as the name suggests – works in a similar way as a traditional karaoke. Instead of choosing between songs from a booklet, the user chooses between speeches. Within a relaxed atmosphere one can listen to speeches delivered by other karaoke bar guests – or try out how it feels to interpret someone´s speech.
Speech Karaoke is a constantly expanding project by The Speech Karaoke Action Group. When the Speech Karaoke-project arrives to a new city, local speeches are added to the Karaoke archive.
The project was created in Finland, the promised land of karaoke bars.

The project thereby questions the role of (educational) institutions in the age of self-organization in art.

Hamburg (Deutschland): Curated by Weekly, 2017
(Heft) 12 unpag. S., 29,5x21 cm,
Techn. Angaben Drahtheftung
ZusatzInformation ‘Curated by Weekly’ is a digital art project. It aims to raise questions regarding online formats, web-based distribution and the acceleration of digital platforms in contemporary art. The project is made up of a website and a magazine, which will be released in irregular intervals. The latter will include essays and interventions about digital exhibition formats, the experiences of digital curation and the questions about media and matter in the post-analogue space. Every week, an artwork will be “curated” and published on the website. In cooperation with different individuals, institutions and independent projects from the art field, artistic positions and works will be displayed. They can function as pieces of art in the digital sphere as well as be critical about it, or to contrast itself with the functions of the web. The project’s pace and composition orientates itself around the relevant visual environment of the present day.
The format of the website is consciously purely visual, while complementary content will be published in the magazine. This content will consist of essays and contributions around certain questions. For example: How new formats will be established in contemporary art, which technological tools are required or how curation is practiced in a digital space. What should particularly be highlighted is determining which artistic media, surfaces and materialities provide an adequate digital environment.
'Curated by Weekly' aims for an experimental format, which uses the speed and the possibilities of the digital space, but instead of reproductions and documentations we want to show artistic work itself, to address availability in the digital space and to use catchy visual surfaces. At the same time, the discourse and the self-reflection of the format is discussed in the appearing magazines/readers online and offline.

(Zeitschrift, Magazin) 44 S., 29x22,5 cm, ISBN/ISSN 978-1-935202-78-3
Techn. Angaben Softcover Drahtheftung
ZusatzInformation Specially created by Maurizio Cattelan in collaboration with fellow countryman Pierpaolo Ferrari for Cattelan's major retrospective at the Guggenheim Museum in New York City, Toilet Paper 4 is a brilliant new creation from the aberrant, animated mind of the Italian-born provocateur, mischief-maker and macabre witness to our times. Published by Deste, this part artist's book, part magazine contains no text. only full spreads of color photographs with imagery that often appropriates the slick production values of commercial photography to deliver dreamlike (or nightmarish) images that are as appropriate for the coffee table as they are for the WC. In an interview with Vogue Italia, Ferrari said that "the magazine springs from a passion/obsession that Maurizio and I have in common. Each picture springs from an idea, even a simple one, and then becomes a complex orchestration of people who build tableaux vivants. This project is also a sort of mental outburst."

Text von Magnus Thorø Clausen. Interviews von Hans Ulrich Obrist.
Per Kirkeby and Lawrence Weiner have known each other for many years. The idea of making a collaborative work and an exhibition together already evolved in the mid eighties, but due to practical reasons the project was not realized back then. Last year during the fall, the idea returned to us in a new form, and we decided together with the artists that now was the time to make it happen. Per Kirkeby shows two brick works built directly within the gallery space. One work is a tall stele with a deep niche, a black line or a "metaphysical shadow" running vertically through it. The other piece is a monumental quadrangular block, an open/closed building or, if you will, a hollow slightly rotten tree. This new installation is made in collaboration with Lawrence Weiner, who has contributed with texts across the inner and outer brick walls, so that words, matter and space overlap and transform the whole. Lawrence Weiner is also showing two other textbased sculptures made site specifically for the gallery space.

Techn. Angaben erschienen zur Ausstellung at the Bloomberg Space London, eingelegt eine Karte mit handschriftlichem Text
ZusatzInformation The Bloomberg website says of the project:
For Comma 38, artist and publisher Arnaud Desjardin will exhibit new, old, rare, and popular books while running an active printing press in Bloomberg Space. His COMMA commission, part of an ongoing project titled The Book on Books on Artists' Books, is intended to create an active and participatory review of current and historical practice. This exhibition is about both the display of books on artists' books and the production of a book about the books displayed. He intends to print a first edition, a book of books, a critical anthology and source book, alongside which a large range of books on artists' books will be displayed in a series of vitrines.
Artists' books have normally been sold and distributed through small networks of bookshops and galleries that often produce lists of available titles in printed form. The advent of the Internet has meant that information online has changed the nature of this documentary evidence. Desjardin's unique and extraordinary combination of display and production makes an exhibition that actively engages in both the making and disseminating in real time. The books themselves become both vehicles for information and documents that testify for artistic activity in its own right

Techn. Angaben Drahtheftung, matt-glänzendes Umschlagpapier, dünne hellgraue Innenseiten, farbiges Beiheft mit Abbildungen, ebenfalls Drahtheftung
ZusatzInformation "A musical adaptation of the multifaceted, facetious, ongoing project «How to Start a Revolution» by – Anna McCarthy. It deals with the romanticization and synaesthetic manipulation tactics entailed in depictions – of revolution, rebellion and recent history acted out by an ever-same group of bored rebels. Facts are mixed with fiction, layers are built upon layers, translations occur to create scenarios that manipulate a viewer’s perception of what was and is truly real. 2-D actors and scenarios mix with 3-D action going on onstage. The «How To Start A Revolution» project has thus far manifested itself in the form of arrests, archives, films, photographs, and songs. But now it is time for the ultimate grand romantic gesture: A MUSICAL – singing, dancing, screaming, and laughing at the question ‘what time is it’? It’s a prophecy, it’s a poetic pop spectacle."

The idea to initiate the FAX HeART project had been conceived during the total blockade of Serbia by the whole world community, when even cultural relations with us, i.e. exchange of art works, exhibitions and publications, were bannend. Our desire had been to break through the blockade by telefax and make contact with as many artists from all over the world as possible. The effects and results of this campaign were splendid. As scheduled, on October 20, 1994, between 5 and 9 o'clock p.m. more than a hundred faxes arrived from various parts of the world.

Bragadini Giovanna, Hrasg.
Libri d’arte, passione di una vita
Parma (Italien): FermoMAG, 2012
(Presse, Artikel)
Techn. Angaben Artikel über Reinhard Grüner,
ZusatzInformation Reinhard Grüner is a collector from Monaco. His passion is art books, which he collects – and sometimes exhibits – since the 1960s.
His website, www.buchkunst.info is a real “online museum”, where international artist books are catalogued and photographed. Amongst the artists there are Marc Chagall, Anselm Kiefer, Henri Matisse, Pablo Picasso and Andy Warhol. Books, but also works of art made of images and text, created by the artist often in collaboration with a writer and a publisher. For the high artistic quality – original graphics, unique designs, paintings and collages – these works are different from the usual picture books. Their manifestations are multiple: books with graphic effects, objects-book, artist’s books, sometimes printed in offset or illustrated by works of artists.
At the centre of Grüner’s attention there are Eastern German and Eastern European books (mainly Russia, Hungary, Lithuania). many of these works were created in response to specific social, political and cultural issues, with unimaginable insights into the culture of modernity.
Reinhard first came in contact with the art in book form with the English Edition, printed privately, of “A Dissertation Upon Roast Pig”, printed in 1975 by Shoestring Press on paper of the legendary Chiswick Press: from here begins a life of a book maniac among thousands of books. As Grüner states in an essay, the acquisition of artist books is more than a simple purchase: the artist, the life as a collector and thoughts are tied together, they influence each other, and a network of contacts with other collectors begins. With nearly all the books in his collection Grüner forms a symbiotic relationship: each of them describes, explains, and gets to the heart of some chapters of his life.

(Zeitschrift, Magazin) 44 S., 29x22,5 cm, ISBN/ISSN 978-2-840665-31-1
Techn. Angaben Softcover Drahtheftung
ZusatzInformation Made by Maurizio Cattelan in collaboration with fellow countryman Pierpaolo Ferrari, Toilet Paper 5 is a brilliant new creation from the aberrant, animated mind of the Italian-born provocateur, mischief-maker and macabre witness to our times. Published by Le Dictateur, this part artist's book, part magazine contains no text. only full spreads of color photographs with imagery that often appropriates the slick production values of commercial photography to deliver dreamlike (or nightmarish) images that are as appropriate for the coffee table as they are for the WC. In an interview with Vogue Italia, Ferrari said that "the magazine is born of a passion/obsession that Maurizio and I have in common. Each picture springs from an idea, often a simple one, and through a complex orchestration of people becomes the materialization of the artists' mental outburst."

ZusatzInformation This new artists’ book by the celebrated Swiss artist-duo gathers 800 images taken from worldwide magazine advertisements. Designed by NORM in close collaboration with the artists, the book, stemming from Fischli/Weiss’ contribution to the Ringier AG Annual Report 2007, is a very generous if slightly nauseating collection of photos, slogans, and messages that constitute our contemporary media landscape. Organized in loose categories, they plunge the reader in a flow of images whose commercial dimension recedes to let their (often unplanned) narrative qualities freely develop into an unlikely account of life’s journey.

Using the traditional format of a magazine publication, comprised of interviews, essays and art criticism, we have curated an overview both of the DNA of Horn’s work, and – through the words of our selection of her friends, collaborators and admirers – of Roni Horn herself. St. Gallen (Schweiz): Philippe Karrer, 2012
(Zeitschrift, Magazin) 40 unpag. S., 32x22 cm, 2 Stück. ISBN/ISSN 7629999015104
Techn. Angaben Drahtheftung. Verschiedene farbige Papiere. Eingelegt ein gefaltetes Poster
ZusatzInformation The publication Spheres is the creative documentation of a close collaboration between an artist and the editor, graphic designer Philippe Karrer. Every issue is dedicated to a young artist and their work, in each case exploring character, surroundings, every-day life, inspirations and ideas using unconventional innovative formats so as to create a different, more visual approach and understanding of the artist and his or her work. The focus lies on what is important to the artist during the time period of working together for the publication, hereby capturing a certain essence of the artists work at the moment. Not only can the reader dive in to the artist‘s world, receiving little personal snippets of the life in and around his or her art, but also (and perhaps even more importantly) — how the artist chooses to present things in the publication gives the reader an idea of his or her whole artistic sphere.
Melanie Bonajo explores the relationship of the individual to its surroundings in a commodified, globalised culture. In her work, she uncovers how our ideas of identity, genre, value and such structures formed by conventions are ever shifting to feelings of uncertainty and instability. She approaches these issues by trying to newly create, to turn around overpowering views and conditions that are today so influenced by our consumer society and tries to get nearer to traits that are rooted in human nature.

Techn. Angaben CD-Rom in Hülle, mit 45 Minuten Tonspur, 38 Seiten Text, 70 Bildern, Text/
ZusatzInformation CD-Rom-Ausgabe der gedruckten Fassung.
The Deaths in Newport is based on an enourmous newspaper archive, which documents the murder trial of Beulah Louise Overell and George Gollum in the late 1940s. They were charged of murdering Beulah Louise's parents on their boat in Newport harbour. The motive was the Overells' dislike of Bud Gollum, and Beulah Louise's expected inheritance, estimated to be 600 000 to one million US Dollars.
In collaboration with Vier5, the book tells the story only by displaying the headlines of the different Newspapers during the long trial. The focus of the book is mainly on the media depicting the case, forcing the spectator to get deeper into the story and details of the trial.
Lewis Baltz was born in Newport. His personal connection to the case is his father, who was the coroner in the Newport Harbour killing.
