ZusatzInformation This volume brings together the stray dogs of contemporary art: Charley 05 features artists that are remained isolated, forgotten, proudly scluded or sightly unnoticied, in spite of their visionary work. Mixing professionals and amateurs, cult figures and unknown, Charley 05 composes a gallery of obsessions. It collects the art of unheard prophets, volontary outcasts, great solitary masters and freaks. Celebrating the extreme subjectivity of nearly 100 artists, Charley 05 questions accepted hierarchies by insinuating new, infective doubts. Charley 05 looks at the periphery, or maybe just sideways, trying to escape from the center.

Bokoros Christos Th.
Odos Eleftherias - Freedom Street
Nikosia (Republik Zypern): the Office Gallery, 2012
(Plakat) 59x42 cm,
Techn. Angaben Plakat
ZusatzInformation In the context of a continuous and persistent spiritual quest in the field of Greek art and its history, the artist Christos Bokoros appears —through simple themes and earthy, warm materials— to win an important battle. He has silently found a subtle and significant way of stripping bare certain symbols—his own ‘signs’: a way of isolating those symbols from anything unnecessary and superfluous, and of drawing the community’s attention to them by revealing them to be purified, resurrectional and full of fire.
Through the presentation of a series of paintings entitled ‘ODOS ELEFTHERIAS’, Bokoros ventures a direct discourse of these ‘signs’ with buildings and streets that are adjacent to, or end up at, Lefkosia’s Green Line. Many of these buildings have suffered damages and decay. One could say that in their own way they constitute a second crevice near the Green Line that divides the state. It is in these fissures that the artist sets up - plants - his ‘ODOS ELEFTHERIAS’, in the hope of giving the city’s centre new fruits and joyous vibrations—in a silent and honest alliance with all the indigenous revitalizing forces

ZusatzInformation Quick Response is a hands-on introduction into the realm of QR code applications and demonstrates a way in which two-dimensional bar codes can be used to view images. People have to “read” this book by taking photos of each page using a cameraphone. The phone’s QR code reader will then decode the abstract image to reveal that each of them is an encoded URL for a photograph hosted on Flickr. The series of photos demonstrates the variety of modern commercial, artistic and subversive QR code applications. In addition, the book demonstrates a new way of appropriating other people’s photographs.

Techn. Angaben Drahtheftung, zwei verschiedenfarbige Papiere
ZusatzInformation Begleitheft zur Ausstellung vom 19.09.-31.10.2013 in der Galerie Espacio Visible in Barcelona
Jacob invites us into an intimate space that serves as a shelter for a nomadic subject, the pilgrim. Free of any territorial attachment, this figure sets out on a devotional journey, motivated by the desire to seek the sacred. Thus, the pilgrim wanders into inhospitable lands, submitting himself to absolute isolation. A solitary exodus towards uncertainty, far away from the worldly, from society, and in a way, from the self. This figure of the pilgrim becomes the leitmotiv of Jacob’s work - its isolation, loss of identity, but also, its vitality. Concepts which she also invokes in her intuitive drawings, that are aesthetically close to Art Brut. "The Room of the Pilgrim" explores the liberty and emancipation that arises from this retreat. In that way, the abandoned refuge built by Jacob speaks of lost rights. The rights to anonymity and intimacy being some of the most recently expropriated and commodified values.

The Trip - Andy Warhol's Plastic Fantastic Cross-Country Adventure
New York, NY (Vereinigte Staaten von Amerika): Atria Books, 2015
(Buch) 324 S., 24x14 cm, ISBN/ISSN 978-1-4767-0351-0
Techn. Angaben Hardcover, fadengeheftet, mit Schutzumschlag
ZusatzInformation From the author of Strapless and Guest of Honor, a book about a little-known road trip Andy Warhol took from New York to LA in 1963, and how that journey—and the numerous artists and celebrities he encountered—profoundly influenced his life and art.
In 1963, up-and-coming artist Andy Warhol took a road trip across America. What began as a madcap, drug-fueled romp became a journey that took Warhol on a kaleidoscopic adventure from New York City, across the vast American heartland, all the way to Hollywood and back.
With locations ranging from a Texas panhandle truck stop to a Beverly Hills mansion, from the beaches of Santa Monica to a Photomat booth in Albuquerque, The Trip captures Warhol’s interactions with Dennis Hopper, Peter Fonda, Marcel Duchamp, Elizabeth Taylor, Elvis Presley, and Frank Sinatra. Along the way he also met rednecks, beach bums, underground filmmakers, artists, poets, socialites, and newly minted hippies, and they each left an indelible mark on his psyche.
In The Trip, Andy Warhol’s speeding Ford Falcon is our time machine, transporting us from the last vestiges of the sleepy Eisenhower epoch to the true beginning of the explosive, exciting ’60s. Through in-depth, original research, Deborah Davis sheds new light on one of the most enduring figures in the art world and captures a fascinating moment in 1960s America—with Warhol at its center.

The Nature of Photographs
London / New York, NY (Großbritannien / Vereinigte Staaten von Amerika): Phaidon, 2007
(Buch) [142] S., 24,5x21 cm, ISBN/ISSN 978-0-7148-5904-0
Techn. Angaben Broschur
ZusatzInformation The Nature of Photographs is the essential primer of photography, not only for students but for anyone with an interest in the medium. This book grew out of a college course that Stephen Shore taught for many years. Its aim is not to explore photographic content – the subject of an image – but to describe the physical and formal attributes of a photographic print, the very elements that form the tools a photographer uses to define and interpret that content. By teaching us how to look at photographs and helping us to see the world the way the photographer may have seen it, Shore also teaches us a way of looking at the world around us.

ZusatzInformation Bast Fooks was one of my new year’s resolutions for 2016. I haven’t given up smoking yet, but I did end up spending my new year’s eve in, printing and sewing the first Bast Fook issue. There and then I had decided that it would be a project in 12 parts and that I would produce a book for each month of 2016. Each Bast Fook is a repository of ideas [in the form of notes, thoughts, readings and misreadings, assumptions, aphorisms, contemplations, stories, lists, observations and ‘lost’ projects]. Bast Fooks have evolved into a platform through which, I can organise –in a pretty disorganised way- ideas as they happen and material produced in different ways, under different circumstances, at different places and times and sometimes by totally different versions of myself. ‘Bast Fook’ is an anagram of ‘Fast Book’ and in a way each issue is offering a slow consumption of a fastness that often reads a lot like a facebook newsfeed, decentered, fragmented, multivoiced.

ZusatzInformation Originating as a conceptual exchange among artists, Art/Life Magazine, was one of the longest continually published artists’ periodicals of the 20th century, presenting a diverse array of art during its 25-year history. Art/Life founder Joe Cardella had asked artists to submit and mail original artworks from all over the world to be compiled into limited edition magazines. As a way to increase accessibility to contemporary art practice, Art/Life documented the lives of the artists, their thoughts, emotions, and creative processes through the transition from industrial to digital art practice. The magazine’s legacy can be seen at MoMa, the Guggenheim, Getty, and LACMA, portraying a global consciousness and collaboration between distanced networks of contemporary artists.

Techn. Angaben naivsuper Nr 011, Musik-CD in Papphülle und transparenter Kunststoffhülle, cover art: Stephane Leonard
ZusatzInformation recorded in 2007 at the Leo Mars studio.
´Lightears´ is the long awaited debut album by Berlin duo Leo Mars. After a year of trial and error, a lot of sessions, sound collecting and analysation of possibilities a precisely crafted, yet astonishingly free floating album came to life. In times of almost infinite sounds, instruments and styles it took the duo some time to come up with the basic material, form a language and then of course learn to speak it. Hours were spent in the studio and their favourite lebanese restaurant discussing the world of sound.
´Lightears´ intelligently smudges the borders between a classic drone, an underground noise, a playful improvisation and an old fashion musique concrete record. All the genres fall into place rather unpretentious with pure sound excitingly assembled to challenge ones listening habits.
It is a rather harsh production always bouncing back and forth between digital, crisp electronics and field recordings pushed way over the edge.
With minimal gear and set up Leo Mars managed to manoveur themselves somewhere inbetween a bedroom thrashing noise keyboard project and a theoratical paper score composer duo. Performing in a trance - allowing things to happen - awaken - making a conscious decision - slipping back into space

Techn. Angaben naivsuper Nr 010, Musik-CD in Papphülle und transparenter Kunststoffhülle, cover art: Stephane Leonard & Martin Eichhorn
ZusatzInformation recorded in 2006, mastered at ICEM in 2007.
We are very proud to announce our 10th release !!! and what makes it even better is that it´s a new dis.playce album!
The EP is called ´Das Ende von Amerika´ (The End of America) and it´s dis.playce´s second release on naivsuper. The title refers to the book ´Amerika´ by Franz Kafka and should not be interpretated in the wrong way)
´Amerika´, also known as ´Der Verschollene´ or ´The Man Who Disappeared´, was the incomplete first novel by Franz Kafka, published posthumously in 1927.
The story describes the bizarre wanderings of a sixteen-year-old European emigrant named Karl Rossmann in the United States, who was forced to go to New York to escape the scandal of his seduction by a housemaid.
Hope originates when something else is absent and holes need to be filled again. The purpose of hope is to make itself vanish again and to reach a state of mind where Utopia or the promised land of North America won´t be needed anymore.
Kafka puts his hero Karl Rossmann over and over again in situations where he is lacking something only to discover that he is lacking even more. The spiral of hope, disappointment and reproaches seems to be endless. With ´Amerika´ Kafka finishes a series of America-fiction from the 19. Century which glorified the United States as the land of boundless possibilities. For Kafka America is not the solution of our problems anymore, it is almost like a second Europe - a land where the problems stay the same.
´Das Ende von Amerika´ is one 24 minute piece published on high quality CDRs

ZusatzInformation Sonic Youth, of course, created a legacy of musical innovation. Thriving on the playgrounds of noise music for more than three decades, they stoically pursued their own particularly dirty blend of noise-punk experimental rock music, building along the way not only a league of dedicated followers, but also miraculously achieving mainstream success without ever ceding ground to mediocrity. If anything, Sonic Youth became a household name for integrity and that specific kind of cool in a genre where cool is firmly attached to youth – which certainly had a lot to do with the unfailing detached charisma of Kim Gordon, who brought a certain glamour to her male counterparts, Lee Ranaldo and Thurston Moore.

Most of his oeuvre, which comprises more than a thousand language-related works, has already been presented in the German-speaking world—some of it either translated by Weiner himself or conceived using German as a basis. Featuring over 350 works, this is the first list of the English/German works. The artist assumed responsibility for the typography and cover design, as if the publication were one of his own works. Accompanying text and visual documents shed light on the creative process, in-situ installations, and Weiner’s way to work with text.

ZusatzInformation "For me press images are an endless source of material with which to work in one way or another. A long time ago, I realised that, almost unconsciously, I was collecting groups of photographs in a folder without a specific theme. Later on, going through them, I noticed that the female figure was a recurrent subject. I selected them because they caught my attention, they talked to me, or they simply attracted my attention. When I understood that there was that link between them, I felt that maybe there were more images of women than men in the media, so I decided to pick up several newspapers and count their photographs. However, the surprise came when I found that it wasn't like that at all."

Techn. Angaben Drahtheftung, in losem Pappumschlag, zwei verschiedene Papiere, in transparenter Kunststoffhülle mit Aufklebern
ZusatzInformation Begleitheft zur Ausstellung "Gasworks Yaoi" vom 26.11.2010 - 23.01.2011 im Gasworks in London.
"Gasworks Yaoi" is the first solo exhibition by Spanish artist Francesc Ruiz in London. The show is the culmination of Ruiz's research in the local area, conducted during his residency at Gasworks. Inspired by the longstanding gay establishments in Vauxhall, the artist has created a semi-fictional narrative that overemphasises the clichés around sexuality and lifestyle in the area.
For "Gasworks Yaoi", Ruiz will transform the front of the gallery into a bookshop specialising in yaoi comic books. Originating in Japan, this genre (translated as 'boys love') depicts male homoerotic narratives. However, unlike male-oriented gay erotica, yaoi comic books are both produced and consumed by women.
The yaoi comics, featured in Ruiz's bookshop at Gasworks are allegedly produced by female amateur illustrators who portray the encounters of a group of men whose nightlives revolve around Vauxhall's sprawling gay club and bar scene. By adopting the yaoi comic format and resorting to female authorship, Ruiz distances himself from the stories and characters he depicts, allowing for the imagination to run wild, indulging in stereotypes and idealised situations. Through the comics' humour and distortion of reality Ruiz gives himself license to explore a specific subculture and the way it sits within the wider fabric of the neighbourhood.
Turned into a specialised comic bookshop for women, Gasworks' space becomes an environment where sexuality, local context and its social dynamics are fictionalised and packaged into a product for consumption.

ZusatzInformation The Perfect Picture is a project on CD-ROM. It is an attempt to make a perfect picture of a formerly impassible part of the town of Utrecht: the military barracks The Kromhoutkazerne. The goal of The Perfect Picture is not to formulate a representative photographic vision of the subject. It seeks rather to present a method whereby the subject can be experienced - experienced in a manner that verges on the way we do that in reality: one that is complex, abundant, and not always equally clear and unambiguous.

ZusatzInformation I wanted to show how cars appear in typical street view, which is rarely the subject of photographs. Cars are usually avoided in photography - one waits until a car has exited a view. The ordinary presence of cars is rarely worthy of representation. It's always the special car, or the extreme traffic jam or, of course, the exciting crash that is being pictured. The Cars pays tribute to the shapes and forms we look at every day. How much time we spend with them, sitting inside them, the endless hours we stare at a dashboard. Even if we don't own a car ourselves, their presence is unavoidable. Cars are everywhere. Their sheer number is the most crazy thing about them. They appear in our lives with excessive omnipresence. In their volume cars intrude upon public space, and the way they occupy streets and open areas is rarely challenged.

To us, archives reflect a purity of purpose—on the part of both those who originally crafted their contents and those who have since collected and cared for them—that perfectly complements our mission over the past decade: to present unfiltered perspectives on creative expression in all of its forms.

In their own quiet way, these silences speak volumes: they are performative, political, critical, abstract, poetic, cynical, technical, absurd… They can be intended as a memorial or a joke, a special offer, or something entirely undefined. The carefully chosen silences of this anthology are intrinsically linked to the medium of reproduction itself and reveal it's nude materiality. They expose their medium in all its facets and imperfections, including the effect of time and wear.

(Buch) 282 S., 27x22,5 cm, ISBN/ISSN 3-86521-125-9
Techn. Angaben Hardcover, fadengeheftet, mit Schutzumschlag
ZusatzInformation Fazal Sheikh made his first trip to the holy Indian city of Vrindavan in 2003. Each year thousands of women make their way there to join the community of widows who spend their days in the temples, worshipping their god Krishna, and preparing for death. Over the next three years, Fazal Sheikh became accepted by the widows, who agreed to sit for their portraits and talked to him about their lives. Their stories revealed how powerless some of the women had been under the strictures of traditional Hindu law. They were victims of enforced marriage, physical violence, sexual abuse and neglect. Some had been evicted from the family home once their children were married. Others had left of their own accord. As Fazal Sheikh discovered, what the women find in Vrindavan is not just religious solace, but in the sisterhood of other widows they find companionship and support. In his portraits their faces are suffused with calm – in some cases they already seem to have reached a half-life, somewhere between this world and the next – and their religious faith, in many ways the source of their past troubles, finally brings them peace. This project was published as Moksha

ZusatzInformation The pictures in Ether, Sheikh’s first project in color, were made as a way to honor the experience of death and to try to comprehend its significance. Benares (Varanasi) is one of India’s sacred cities, where many Hindus come to die in the belief that they will find salvation. As he walked its streets by night, Sheikh observed sleeping figures, shrouded in blankets, lost to an oblivion that seemed, in that holy city, to offer a simulacrum of death.
