La Lude, La Sonde was composed for the performance ´La Sonde´ by Christophe Bailleau and Martine Viale. The performance was held at the city sonics festival 2006 (Mons, Belgium) and at Le festival d'avignon from July 10th to 20th 2006.
Martine Viale lives and works in Montreal, Canada. His work is mainly inspired by traditional Butoh dance. Mixed with his very own style his shows are a new and fresh vision in contemporary dance.
Each performance is a unique improvisation, since the body perceives it´s surrounding differently every time

Fieldrecordings, Kommunikation zwischen Klängen einer surrealen Zukunftsgroßstadt in Anlehnung an die Tradition Neuer Musik und music concrete.
R ist dis.playces fulminantes Debut. Die Entstehung erstreckte sich über drei Jahre und zeigt auf erstaunliche Art und Weise die Entwicklung der zwei Komponisten.
Jeder Track hat ein Thema: ein Phänomen, eine Gestalt, um die es geht. Dieses Thema kann rein musikalisch sein, eine Beschränkung auf eine bestimmte Klasse von Klangquellen, ein technisches Verfahren oder etwas außermusikalisches. Die ersten im Jahre 2002 entstandenen Stücke arbeiten hauptsächlich mit Material aus Improvisationen mit einem analogen Synthesizer, welches dann zur Grundlage für digitales Processing wurde. Zwei Stücke sind beinahe ausschließlich aus konkreten Klängen komponiert. Die jüngsten Stücke bauen auf der Erfahrung von Liveauftritten, der Kommunikation mit Raum und Publikum auf. Sie wurden mit Hilfe von selbstgeschriebener Software komplett am Computer komponiert und produziert. R ist abwechslungsreich und vielfältig, behält sich aber trotz seiner, für moderne Komponisten, überraschenden Verspieltheit eine gewisse Strenge und Geschlossenheit

The tracks are like scenes of a play full of small gestures, unspoken and undone things partly inspired by the japanese NOH theater.

Soundsystem Pastoral was recorded by Daniel Lopatin aka Dania Shapes during the winter of 2004 using synthesizers, a first generation digital sequencer, and a freeware sound editor. It was remixed in 2006 for the release on naivsuper.
Celebrating the potential of amateurishness, decadence and romance in the realm of digital audio arts, Lopatin looks to marry the aesthetic sensibilities of experimental electronics with his allegiance to the classic 'beauty' in music. 'Glitch' is less a process for Lopatin -- rather it is an aesthetic impression which Lopatin emulates by hand. Pairing the residual effects of romantic, heart string melodies with steroidal, detailed, maximalist noise, Dania Shapes' audible bricolage is a tribute to both the beautiful and the broken all at once.
Working with simple tools such as handheld tape recorders, retro synthesizers, and a personal computer, Lopatin creates conceptual systems and processes to create a solo music that's beautiful and inventive, with interesting textures and unexpected sonic interventions. The music has a lush, ambient quality, but an edge as well. Throughout the CD, one finds a subtle use of repetition. The pieces are formally well-conceived and never contrived. The music is clearly indebted to heroes of electronica such as Christian Fennesz, William Basinski, and Brian Eno. and it has links to classic experimentalists such as David Tudor and David Behrman. Yet Lopatin maintains a more song-based musical position that results in an accessible product that will attract fans of ambient, post-rock, and experimental music

John Cage hat bei seinen vielen Besuchen in Bremen und Oldenburg zahlreiche Werke und Spuren hinterlassen. Der Komponist Hans Otte, Hauptabteilungsleiter Musik bei Radio Bremen, und Gertrud Meyer-Denkmann, Musikkritikerin und -pädagogin in Oldenburg, kannten Cage schon seit den 1950er Jahren und haben ihn immer wieder zu Veranstaltungen und Konzerten eingeladen oder ihn mit Kompositionsaufträgen bedacht.
John Cage war bereits 1960 für Aufnahmen bei Radio Bremen das erste Mal in Bremen, 1972 führte er mit David Tudor die Stücke „Rainforest II“ und „Mureau“ simultan auf. Anlässlich seines 70. Geburtstags realisierte er dann 1982 mit mehr als 800 Kindern und Jugendlichen „A House Full of Music“. Die Ausstellung zeichnet die Stationen von John Cage in Bremen und Oldenburg nach und bringt sie mit Werken aus dem Studienzentrum in Verbindung.

The score is meant to be performed on a cello because of the similarity between this string instrument and the mechanism that makes the elevator work.

Edition 09 in the ongoing Artist Music Journals series features the work of the Montreal based artists and musicians Chloe Lum and Yannick Desranleau, known as Seripop. Known for their original illustration and design work, as well as their longstanding tenure as founders and members of the musical outfit Aids Wolf, Seripop have a broad following around the globe. For their AMJ, Seripop compiled years of original gig poster work, the first collection of its kind for the studio, which has made thousands of prints over the years.
About Seripop: Yannick Desranleau and Chloe Lum are visual artists and musicians who started collaborating in 2002 under the nom de guerre Seripop. Based in Montreal, Seripop has earned international attention for its stylistically distinct, silkscreened street posters. In 2005, Lum and Desranleau began experimenting with sculptural print installations which merge notions of city politics and visual perception. The duo has been speaking and exhibiting their work at various art institutions including Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art in Gateshead, England, Peacock Visual Arts in Aberdeen, Scotland, and the University of North Texas, Denton, USA. In addition to Seripop, Lum and Desranleau play in AIDS Wolf, a noise-rock band and Hamborghinni, a drums and electronics project.

Unlike any previous Artist Music Journal, this installment includes Brian's 24-page book as well as a one-sided 10" record, featuring a collaboration between Brian and No Age with three exclusive tracks!
Brian lives and works in Los Angeles primarily as a graphic designer. He received a BFA in graphic design from CalArts in 2004. His work encompasses design, publishing, writing and curating as well as running his own vinyl-only record label Hand Held Heart. In 2009 he was nominated for a Grammy for his design of the No Age Nouns album packaging. In 1999 he was providing bass duties for This Machine Kills. He was dancing steadily. He could see the backs of people’s heads moving in the darkness and was aware of the shifting spaces between their bodies. He did not register the music except as a sort of vibration. He felt as if he was dancing in perfect silence. He saw the already dim room growing ever darker around him. He became less conscious of his surroundings and more aware of himself. His introspection grew but his body was now moving automatically, softly cycling through a short loop of set motions. He noticed dust under his feet, and soon the realisation reached him that he was slowly wearing a shallow hole in the wooden floor. His body was locked in an efficient cycle. Before too long he was six inches below floor level, his head parallel with some of the shorter dancers. Yet he could not stop. Gradually he sank deeper into the ground until his face was level with people’s waists. No one noticed, below the eye level of the crowd, he was almost invisible. Presently his eyes came level with the soles of dancing shoes. He could see shards of coloured light flashing through a forest of legs casting jagged shapes across the floor. There were points where soft reflected light shone through looming figures like sunlight into a clearing. Eventually he was entirely submerged. He could look up through the hole and see foreshortened bodies moving above him oblivious to his plight. Still his feet moved, wearing away damp, pungent earth. The vibrations from the music lessened until the dull thump of the kick drum was all that he could feel. When it stopped he realised he too was still, and looking up he saw the sphere of light was gone.

Das zwischen 1965 und 1971 veröffentlichte Multimedia-Magazin in einer Schachtel war eine Initiative der amerikanischen Verlegerin Phyllis Johnson. Von den Herausgebern als "erstes dreidimensionales und multimediales Magazin" bezeichnet, erschienen die zehn Ausgaben in unregelmäßigen Abständen. Jede Ausgabe erschien in einer anderen Schachtel oder Mappe, die mit Materialien in verschiedenen Formaten gefüllt war, darunter Broschüren, Postkarten, Flexidisks, Poster und Super-8-Filme. Zu den Herausgebern, Gestaltern und Autoren gehörten viele Pioniere der zeitgenössischen Kunst in Nordamerika und Europa.

This third issue of our newspaper is dedicated to this year’s overwhelming number of anniversaries and its abysms. With curiosity we notice their paradoxical relationship with the present. It’s been ten years since the financial crash, but monetary values are not more balanced and speculation bubbles are bigger than ever. It’s been 50 years since LSD came into popular use, opening the doors of perception, but perception seems to be even narrower today than it was back then. It’s been 80 years since Austria’s annexation to Germany, and yet ‚The Sound of Music‘ is still remembered as a classic, sweetened depiction of resistance towards fascism’s expansion in Europe, rather than the fall of aristocracy, what it really was. It’s been 100 years since the end of the First World War and yet the struggle between Conservatism and Socialism has never been so prevalent. It’s been 200 years since Marx was born, and his work still remains a historical ideal rather than a reality.
